Research, collect and prepare background materials - London Olympics 2012 - Bidding Process

When it comes to the Olympics, its a big thing. It involves the whole world and so every country wants the honour to present the games both the Summer and the Winter as well as the Paralympics. 

It was in 1999, nine cities that submitted bids before that date also met the 15 January 2004 deadline for submission of the first phase questionnaire. The bidding process for the 2012 Olympics was considered one of the most hotly contested in the history of the IOC (International Olympic Committee).

In the end nine biggest countires of the world were voted and here is the result of the first round of the process of the nine cities:

Paris — scored 8.5
Madrid — scored 8.3
London — scored 7.6
New York City — scored 7.5
Moscow — scored 6.5

Leipzig — scored 6.0
Rio de Janeiro — scored 5.1
Istanbul — scored 4.8
Havana — scored 3.7

The first five went through to the next round and here is a table to show how each round ended and how the final result came to be.

When the result came through, the whole country of Britain celebrated to their heart's content as sport in this country will benefit enormously with London hosting the Olympics. It's a great honour and something we can take great pride in as a country.
