Research, collect and prepare background materials - London Olympics 2012 - Ticketing

Organisers say that 8 million tickets would be available for the Olympic Games, and 1.5 million tickets for the Paralympic Games. Ticket sign-up in Great Britain, was launched on 22 March 2010 and website  for these tickets was opened on 15 March 2011 until 26 April 2011. Ticket prices range from £20 for many events to £2,012 for the most expensive seats at the opening ceremony. For the first time in Olympic history the sailing events will be tickteted. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games have admitted that further tickets, up to one million, will be will released later in 2011 for events that have failed to sell out in the initial allocation. Over half the people who applied got no tickets in Great Britain.

Around 60 per cent of request applications were submitted in the first two hours and during that time 10 sports sold out, some within 15 minutes. This massive demand meant around 10 per cent have not been successful in this round. The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) will do everything it can to get these people to the Games. 24 sports were in the second round sale, 18 of which were sold out by Friday evening. Boxing and Weightlifting joined the 'sold out' list yesterday. Tickets for Football, Volleyball, Wrestling – Greco-Roman and Wrestling – Freestyle remain on sale.

The Chairman of LOCOG Sebastian Coe said: 'Over 130,000 more people will now have tickets to the Games following the first day of the 'second chance sale' on Friday. We know there is still disappointment from those who were not successful in their requests but we will continue do everything we can to get them to the Games.

Over a million new tickets will be offered to the British public next year from contingency seats, once venues are tested and licensed, and they are aiming to get as many of these tickets as possible into the hands of customers who have missed out to date.
